I’ve mentioned this before – I’ve lived in Metro Atlanta for over three years and I’m only now discovering a small bit of what the city has to offer. Thank goodness for the press releases that come to my inbox and keep me in the know! Here’s what’s going on in and around Atlanta now and in the near future…
If you haven’t already seen my post on my personal blog about my night in Neverland at the Peter Pan show, go and check it out. This show was absolutely amazing and will blow your socks off. Originally slated to run through March 20th, it looks like the show has been extended through April 9th, so get your tickets soon! The show is located in Pemberton Plaza (between World of Coke and the Georgia Aquarium) and has an amazing set!
Tickets can be a bit pricey, but if you book a show on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday or Sunday between now and March 4th, you’ll get 50% off using the code “ENCORE” at checkout. (Thanks, Encore Atlanta!)

Everyone loves Shrek the movie, right? Well, Broadway Across America is bringing us Shrek the Musical! The ogrerific show will be at the Fox Theatre for one week, from April 26 through May 1, 2011 and tickets are starting at only $18.
SHREK THE MUSICAL tells the story of a swamp-dwelling ogre who goes on a life-changing adventure to reclaim the deed to his land. Joined by a wise-cracking donkey, this unlikely hero fights a fearsome dragon, rescues a feisty princess and learns that real friendship and true love aren’t only found in fairy tales.
SHREK THE MUSICAL features a book and lyrics by Pulitzer Prize® winner David Lindsay-Abaire (Rabbit Hole), music by Olivier Award-winner Jeanine Tesori (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Caroline, or Change), and is directed by Tony Award® nominee Jason Moore (Avenue Q) and Tony and Emmy Award-winner Rob Ashford (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Promises Promises). SHREK THE MUSICAL has set and costume designs by Tony Award® winner Tim Hatley (Private Lives, Spamalot), lighting design by Olivier Award winner Hugh Vanstone (A Steady Rain), sound design by Peter Hylenski (Rock of Ages); choreography by Josh Prince, music supervision by Tim Weil, music direction by Andy Grobengieser, and orchestrations by Danny Troob & John Clancy.
Legoland Discovery Center
Okay, I know this one isn’t a show or an event really. It’s more of an experience and one that I cannot wait to see! Merlin Entertainments is building a $12m Legoland Discovery Center at the Phipps Plaza right here in Atlanta! Expected to open in Spring 2012, the LEGOLAND Discovery Center will offer a fun, highly interactive and educational two to three-hour indoor experience ideal for families with children 3-10 years old.
I have a sneaking suspicion that the new Legoland Discovery Center is going to be truly a sight to behold and I can’t wait to check it out next year!
